Finding your purpose

Updated: Aug 17, 2020

I know what you’re thinking, this is definitely of the deepest questions that you can ever ask yourself. What is your purpose? I must admit this question has really made struggle with everyday life in many ways over years or so especially at the start of lock-down. I was working for my company from home and I would constantly ask myself, Ollie, What is your purpose? to be on this planet what are you going to do with your life? and I don’t mean this in a bad way because I just feel in my own head every single person who walks upon this earth has a purpose to do greatness with their lives.

We all as humans beings have got so much to offer to this world! But for many people it can be extremely difficult to find what that will be. For example I’m a triplet for anyone who does not know, my brother Christian has known what he wanted to do almost his whole life since he was a young kid. He has always been a performer, including a singer dancer and also an actor. My sister and myself also done this when we was young but it just fizzled out for us, with my brother, we always knew it would stick with him forever. The passion he has for this industry is honestly phenomenal and amazing and I’m so proud of him. If you have known what you wanted to do since you were younger or if you do right now then honestly I take my hat off to you and congratulate you because if you can answer that question then that is absolutely amazing, I hope that you never lose focus of this. I’m here to talk about people that are in the same boat as me in a sense of finding what their purposes or what they feel like they need or want to do with their lives.

Finding a purpose in your life doesn’t always have to mean work. I feel like with a lot of people I have spoken to about this assume that it has to be always regarding work. This question does not just have to mean what are you going to do for work for the rest of your life, as much as work is a huge part of life, that does not mean it is the sole purpose to this. There are so many different paths in life that can help you realise what your purpose will be. Do not compare yourself to someone who has find theirs, there is no rush. Don't panic. It will come to you.

The key is to not constantly rattle your brain about this, do not beat yourself up! (I know easier said than done.) But if you do it is so helpful to speak up and out to people you can trust. I speak about this to a couple of my friends and also my therapist and it has helped me so much.

Right now, I want you to take yourself to a quiet place in your house or flat, or even someone outside, wherever you feel most comfortable and most at peace. Clear you mind as best you can. Think about things that you do on a daily basis that make you fulfilled in your life. This could be anything, from a sport you love playing, a TV show you enjoy watching etc. Keep that in your mind and also write all things down. (If you cannot think of anything straight away that's okay, take your time, sometimes you need to be in a different frame of mind to do this sort of thing. So you can always do it whenever you feel is best for you.) Now I am not saying that the answer is going to come to you in a flash but now it is time to do some brainstorming a research. The items you wrote down, ensure you keep these things up for one sole purpose they make you happy. One thing that you are doing in your life now, is making yourself happy. That is the most important purpose for every single one of you. To be happy. The rest will follow I can promise you that. Do some research online, try find a new hobby if you want to try and find something new if you like. That is exactly what I did which is why I am talking to you today.

I was thinking what I did that make me feel the happiest. It was honestly when I was posting positive quotes, videos and messages on my personal Instagram, support different people regarding anything, especially mental health. This is what I was missing, taking that the next level! This is what I feel I am meant to do and I will continue to do so.

I hope this has helped you lovely readers, I know a purpose in life can be a challenge. But like I said, your own happiness is the most important purpose in your life. Find happiness in yourself with whatever support you need. Remember we are all in this together. Speak soon and have a great week!
