Overthinking? Let’s talk about it together!

The mind is such a powerful tool and use for such simple things that sometimes we do not even consciously think about it and then things that can be more complicated to work out or do. When you think about it, the mind really is amazing. Your mind can be a safe space during your most dark times too! But as beautiful and great as our minds can be, sometimes there are parts of the mind that can lure you away from reality, this as we all know as overthinking. Overthinking can cause ours minds to wonder into the most negative and dark places which sadly we all experience, so more than others. What is important is to try and understand it is normal to feel this way and just learning just have to deal with outthinking and how to kick it out of your mind.

Overthinking is something that I have struggled with for an extremely long time and am still learning to control to this day. Going to therapy has really helped me to understand these thoughts better but it still does occur as of course this is only natural for us all. Ask yourself this, what do you think is the main cause for you to overthink? And do you feel that you deal with it well? These questions are really important to ask yourself to help you work out what this can be and how it can help you.

What can help with overthinking?

The quote above couldn’t be more true, overthinking can really ruin your happiness and just yourself in general, mostly creating scenarios in your head that are not actually true or even having in your reality for that matter. This is a lose lose situation for all of us. So, what can you do to help you, I am going to give you some tips that have helped me along the way.

You cannot control everything!

It is important to remember that no matter what some things that go on in life and completely out of your own control. Always keep that in your mind when you can feel yourself wondering, it has really helped ease my mind at times. Accepting these situations that can occur to cause overthinking is a challenge and if you do overthink do not be hard on yourself! It’s okay.

Exercise

Like I have said before, exercise is a perfect way to help keep your mind clear and in a better state. Whether it is a sport you enjoy or even just a walk, it really will help, it is one of the main things that I do when I feel this way. If you have not tried this before I would really advise you to give it a go.

Get a good quality of sleep

Getting a good nights sleep is a great way to help as well! Getting at least 8 hours of sleep is more important than you think to keep your head clear and happy. (If you haven’t read my post on helping with sleep, go have a look if you have a spare few minutes!) there is a lot on there that I hope will help!

Spend time with friends or family

Keeping yourself busy with friends and family will take your mind of things as well! I know whenever I do go out or spend time with important people in my life. I feel miles better in that moment. Do not shut yourself away, go and enjoy yourself and keep your mind free and at peace for a while, it is the least that you deserve, remember that!

Put things into a wider perspective

Whatever it is that you are going through that is making you overthink, one good thing to try and ask yourself is, will this matter in a few weeks, months or even years? This can help to let go of what is causing this in a lot of causes as we all know overthinking is just our mind creating powerful thoughts that is not actually happening.

I really hope that this quick post helps and is a good read for you all about the concept of overthinking, I will definitely come back to this topic in the future. Remember, it is okay to overthink but learning to control this can be a steady road so always open up about the thoughts you have which will honestly always help! Like I always say never suffer alone, we are all in this together. I wish you all an amazing weekend. Love as always.
